If there's something strange and it's made of wood, who ya gonna call?
The Timber Merchants got together in October 2001 to blur the lines between Christian and secular music.
The band was formed from members who met during the Cambridge Christian Musicals Society's production of Steven Kitson's "Frontiers" in spring 2001. Ed served as lyricist for the show, Liam had a starring role, Eva was director and Martin and Jeff contributed music, along with founding members Chris Rice (drums) and Mark Slater (guitar). Stoo had been previously involved in the society. Their fledgeling performance as a band (billed, bizarrely, as "Uncle Papa and The Timber Merchants") was at Newnham College bar on 27th October 2001.
The band played regularly in and around Cambridge over the next couple of years, but since about 2004 work, family and distance have restricted live performances to a handful every year. They remain close friends and are available for functions (weddings, parties, fundraisers, etc) at a very reasonable rate. Over the years, a large repertoire of accessible and entertaining music has been developed, and their live shows are entertaining and dynamic.
